Go Karting champion Shahan Ali felicitated in Agra

first_imgWhen it comes to adventure sports, Agra is often considered ‘backwater country’, as there are hardly any sporting facilities available in the city that caters to this genre of sports. However, this genre is slowly gaining momentum among the affluent sections of the city, with the latest example being of 12-year-old Shahan Ali Mohsin, who has recently won numerous international awards in the field of Go Karting.On the occasion of Holi, Shahan was felicitated and presented with the Rising Star of The Year – 2016 award for his achievements in the past two years, winning several national and international Go Karting championships since 2014.According to Shahan’s father Shahroo Mohsin, a leading footwear exporter of the city, his son caught the Go Karting bug on a family trip to Hyderabad, where he tried his hands on the Go Karting track there and soon adapted to the sport like a professional. Amazed by Shahan’s capability to compete with racers much older in age than him, Shahroo got him enrolled in the MACO Racing Academy in Hyderabad in 2013 as well as the Al Ain pro raceway in the UAE. In May 2013, Shahan participated in the JK Tyre Kart Open in Hyderabad as a ‘Rookie’ racer and won second place in the professional category.Having tested his mettle against other professional racers, Shahan soon began participating in each and every Go Karting championship that he could and has won the podium in a number of national and international Go Karting events all over Asia and became the first Indian racer to gain the podium in the Malaysian Rotex Asia race in January 2015. Even in 2016, Shahan arrived second in the Asian championship held at Kuala Lumpur and could go to Italy to participate in the world championship if he wins all six rounds of the Asian championship. Till date, no Asian racer has managed to achieve this feat.advertisementTalking to India Today, Shahan said that he was well aware of the risks associated with this kind of sports and when he enters the racing track, he is wearing the best possible safety gear available.
