first_imgWHITTIER – A person who got out of a vehicle to retrieve a dolly from the northbound lanes of the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway, north of Whittier Boulevard, was injured Tuesday and was airlifted to a hospital, officials said.The accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m., when a Nissan Maxima hit the dolly on the freeway, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Tim Noyes. A passenger in the Maxima then got out to retrieve the dolly and a pickup truck came up from behind, striking the passenger and the Maxima, Noyes said.Rescuers found the passenger underneath the pickup truck. The victim had minor to moderate injuries and was airlifted to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.Two occupants in the pickup truck fled the scene.The accident is under investigation, Noyes said.
