The outpouring of support has far exceeded our greatest expectations.”Stand Up for Heroes, presented at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, sold out with more than 5,500 guests in attendance. The event brought together leaders from military, business, entertainment, government and philanthropy to raise funds to help post-9/11 injured service members and their families thrive long after they return to the homefront.A first for Stand Up for Heroes this year was a Hangout on Air, powered by Google. The Hangout on Air featured musical performances by Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters and an interactive discussion between musicians on location, comedians, celebrity crashers, veterans and fans. The Hangout was available on the Bob Woodruff Foundation Google+ channel and the Bob Woodruff YouTube channel, and will remain available for guests to view post-event. The event was also live-streamed on the Bob Woodruff Foundation website.A highlight of the night was when Roger Waters performed with a band comprised of nearly two dozen musicians and singers, all of whom are wounded active service members or veterans representing all branches of the armed forces and the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band. MusiCorps – an organization the Bob Woodruff Foundation funds – is a rehabilitation program operating out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that helps injured service members recover through the healing powers of music. Roger performed with a band comprised of nearly two dozen musicians and singers, all of whom are wounded active service members or veterans representing all branches of the armed forces and the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band.Perhaps the most touching moment of the star-studded event was a speech given by injured service member Army Officer Larkin and his wife Rachel O’Hern. Larkin was severely wounded and lost both of his legs and one of his hands. Thanks to his many surgeons and therapists, he stood up for the first time this past May, and was able to stand on the tarmac to welcome each soldier from his platoon home from war. Larkin now walks with a cane and plans to stay on active duty. He also intends to obtain his M.B.A. and return to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was commissioned in 2008, to teach.Source:PR Newswire

Peugeot logoReutersIn April 2016, French carmaker Peugeot, which is now PSA Peugeot Citroen (Groupe PSA), had confirmed its plans to re-enter India by 2018 as part of the ‘Push to Pass’ plan, a growth plan strategy of the company for 2016 to 2021. The company was in search of an Indian partner and it now looks like it has got one. Also read: Lexus, Kia, Daihatsu, SAIC among seven car makers coming to IndiaFrench website Les Echos reports that Groupe PSA has forged an alliance with New Delhi-based CK Birla Group. The details of the operation are expected to be revealed by Carlos Tavares, the boss of the French manufacturer, at a press conference soon. The tie-up will make use of the Hindustan Motors plant in Chennai as its production unit, the report adds. Hindustan Motors is owned by the Birla family and is one of the oldest carmakers in India with its iconic sedan Ambassador. The plant currently produces some of the Mitsubishi vehicles and has a capacity of manufacturing 12,000 vehicles per year. The first car launch of Peugeot in India is expected before 2020.The French carmaker was one of the early birds in India after the country’s economy opened up for foreign investments in the early 1990s. The company had partnered with Premier Automobiles in 1994 and offered the 309 sedan. However, the partnership ran into trouble with labour issues, and Peugeot wound up its India operations in 1997.After a long hiatus, the second entry was confirmed six years ago, and the company showcased 3008 hybrid, RCZ, 3008 crossover and 908 LeMans car at the Auto Expo 2012. PSA was planning to build a plant worth more than 600 million euros in Gujarat. However, financial uncertainties prompted the company to shelve the plan.Source: Les Echos

Senior Pakistan batsman Younis Khan is contemplating calling it a day from one-day internationals after the series against England in the UAE.Well-informed sources told PTI on Monday that Younis might announce his retirement from one-day internationals during or after the four-match series.“There has been so much controversy over his selection in the one-day team and plus the clear indications from the team management that they want to build a young team for the World Cup 2019 that Younis is contemplating retirement,” one source confirmed. Also Read – A league of his own!He said that Younis, 37, has been waiting for the right time to call it a day from 50-overs cricket and the series against England gives him this chance.“He has not decided as yet but he himself is keen to end the controversy surrounding his selection for ODIs and there is a chance he might decide to take a bow himself after having played the series against England,” the source said. Younis was recalled to the Pakistan squad for the series last week after he last played an ODI in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in March 2015. Also Read – Domingo named new Bangladesh cricket coachSince March 2013 the senior batsman, who has been in record breaking form in Test cricket, has been out of the ODI squad for long periods and has played just 11 matches in the last two and half years. “His close friends and cricket advisors also feel Younis should retire from ODIs when he is in the team and do it himself,” the source stated. Sources close to the national selectors also said they got vibes from Younis that he might quit ODIs next month. The selectors earlier this year had made an offer to Younis to lead the team in Zimbabwe when Azhar Ali was not available but quit afterwards but he declined the offer saying he will quit on his own terms. Head coach Waqar Younis during his recent meetings with chief selector Haroon Rasheed in Sharjah assured him that Younis would not sit on the bench and get a chance to play the full series. The chief selector after much difficulty managed to convince the head coach to give the in-form Younis a shot in the ODI series.
