Kuru Kuru residents protest deplorable state of road

first_imgFrustrated parents, teachers and even students of the Kuru Kuru Primary and Secondary Schools on Monday morning took to the streets to protest the impassable condition of the main access road to the community.A section of the protestersThe road deteriorated massively over the past 18 years. Guyana Times understands the road which leads to the institutions – which are all housed on one plot – is currently lined with huge holes that cause severe damage to vehicles.Parents expressed their concern over the condition of the road, which buses would have to traverse to take their children to and from school.They referred to the holes as soars and vowed to continue protesting until the relevant authorities look into the situation.One teacher who spoke with this publication cried, “The road is very deplorable going into the Kuru Kuru College. As recent as Wednesday, there are some buses contracted… about three times they nearly turn over in the road (and they were) fully loaded with school children… we will continue until Friday, unless we have some intervention from somebody giving us some assurance that it will be done”.Guyana Times understands that hundreds of children usually use the access road to the schools, in addition to other students who take advantage of other courses being offered by the College.That teacher added, “The situation has been going on for about 18 years, but it start to deteriorate more in these latter times. Coming down to these times now, it start getting worse”.According to him, the last rehabilitation works were done several years ago and has left commuters fearful of traversing, especially while in vehicles.A parent complained too that after her son related to her that the bus he was travelling in almost toppled, she became fearful and is supporting the call for the road to be fixed as soon as possible.last_img read more
