You win new clients and new opportunities one of two ways: intention or accident. Intentionally won deals are how you grow your sales; accidental deals are how you fail to do so.A Series of Happy AccidentsWith a little luck, you can win a new client through a happy accident. Your dream client may find your company online and raise their hand and ask for help at just the right time. One of your existing clients may refer one of their contacts to you after discovering they have a problem you can solve for them. Marketing can churn up a lead that happens to be ripe for your offer, and everything can fall easily into place. But you can’t count on being found by the people you hope to serve. You can’t count on your existing clients bringing up your name to one of their contacts in a conversation about business. Even though marketing has an important role to play, your success belongs to you, and you alone. You cannot build success by hoping for happy accidents. All these happy accidents do is allow some salespeople to hold out hope for more.Intentionally Chasing Down SuccessIf you really want certain results, you can’t leave those results to chance. You have to chase them down. You build success by intentionally taking action on your goals and the outcomes that you need. Success is keeping score, and it knows when you have paid in advance for what you want.If you want to win your dream client’s business, you need to develop a pursuit plan, nurture relationships, and chase down those clients. Applying enough effort and energy against any obstacle long enough, and the obstacle yields. Applying enough hope against any obstacle doesn’t have the same effect.Luck can be a wonderful accident, but it is as fickle as all get out, and not to be trusted with your future. If you want success, in sales or anything else, you are going to have to achieve it intentionally, through massive, focused action. Nothing is guaranteed, but this is as close a sure thing as you will ever have. Get the Free eBook! Learn how to sell without a sales manager. Download my free eBook! You need to make sales. Senior Congress leader and former Haryana Finance Minister Ajay Singh Yadav has written to interim party president Sonia Gandhi to express his displeasure over “loyal workers” being ignored in ticket distribution.Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Yadav, who unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election earlier this year, said he has apprised Ms. Gandhi of the matter but refused to divulge details of the letter. “I wrote to Ms. Gandhi saying that those who have worked for the party for the past five years and supported me during the Lok Sabha election were being ignored in ticket distribution. Candidates who can win should be given tickets, not those who opposed me during the Lok Sabha election,” he said.He also tweeted to express his “disgust” over the list finalised by the screening committee headed by Madhusudan Mistry giving preference to “defectors” and “non-Congressmen”. The six-time MLA claimed to have information about the candidates finalised by the committee. He said some of the screening committee members joined the party recently and had no right to be on the panel.
The Bob Woodruff Foundation and the New York Comedy Festival presented Stand Up for Heroes last week in New York City, which featured a special appearance by Bruce SpringsteenThe event, funded in part by the generosity of Veterans on Wall Street (VOWS) and supported by founding sponsor GFI Group, Inc., brought together celebrities, military, business and government leaders, service members and their families for a night of laughter and performances from A-list musicians and comedians, as well as wounded veterans, to raise funds for programs that the Bob Woodruff Foundation supports. The amount raised last night was more than $5 million — a new record for the Stand Up for Heroes Event, now in its seventh year. The funds raised will benefit organizations across the country vetted by the Bob Woodruff Foundation for their effectiveness and success. To date, $21 million has been raised by the Stand Up for Heroes events.Comedians who took the stage for this year’s 7th annual Stand Up for Heroes event included Bill Cosby, Jim Gaffigan, Jerry Seinfeld and Jon Stewart. There was also a surprise video message from First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, expressing their support for the Bob Woodruff Foundation. The event included a sensational musical performance by Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen has performed at all seven Stand Up for Heroes benefit concerts. The night also included a live auction, which raised $750,000.Notable attendees included: CNN chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour, ABC special correspondent Juju Chang, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, General and Mrs. Dempsey, Chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, actress America Ferrera, President and COO of Universal Studios Ron Meyer, business leader Ron Perelman and NBC anchor Brian Williams.“We are thrilled with the results from Stand Up for Heroes — the generosity and spirit exhibited that evening from all the honored guests, performers and supporters is quite humbling,” said Bob Woodruff, Co-Founder of the Bob Woodruff Foundation.“I continue to be overwhelmed by the incredible response to Stand Up for Heroes year after year,” says Caroline Hirsch, founder and owner of the New York Comedy Festival and Carolines on Broadway. “When we conceived this event seven years ago, we had high hopes for raising awareness and funds for the Bob Woodruff Foundation. The outpouring of support has far exceeded our greatest expectations.”Stand Up for Heroes, presented at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, sold out with more than 5,500 guests in attendance. The event brought together leaders from military, business, entertainment, government and philanthropy to raise funds to help post-9/11 injured service members and their families thrive long after they return to the homefront.A first for Stand Up for Heroes this year was a Hangout on Air, powered by Google. The Hangout on Air featured musical performances by Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters and an interactive discussion between musicians on location, comedians, celebrity crashers, veterans and fans. The Hangout was available on the Bob Woodruff Foundation Google+ channel and the Bob Woodruff YouTube channel, and will remain available for guests to view post-event. The event was also live-streamed on the Bob Woodruff Foundation website.A highlight of the night was when Roger Waters performed with a band comprised of nearly two dozen musicians and singers, all of whom are wounded active service members or veterans representing all branches of the armed forces and the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band. MusiCorps – an organization the Bob Woodruff Foundation funds – is a rehabilitation program operating out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that helps injured service members recover through the healing powers of music. Roger performed with a band comprised of nearly two dozen musicians and singers, all of whom are wounded active service members or veterans representing all branches of the armed forces and the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band.Perhaps the most touching moment of the star-studded event was a speech given by injured service member Army Officer Larkin and his wife Rachel O’Hern. Larkin was severely wounded and lost both of his legs and one of his hands. Thanks to his many surgeons and therapists, he stood up for the first time this past May, and was able to stand on the tarmac to welcome each soldier from his platoon home from war. Larkin now walks with a cane and plans to stay on active duty. He also intends to obtain his M.B.A. and return to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was commissioned in 2008, to teach.Source:PR Newswire

Jerry Brown had consumed well below the Texas legal limit of alcohol when he died last month in a car driven by Dallas Cowboys teammate Josh Brent, according to an autopsy report.Neither Brown, a practice squad player, not Brent, the team’s starting defensive tackle, wore seat belts in the one-car accident on December 8. Brown’s blood-alcohol content was determined to be 0.0056 – nowhere near the limit of 0.08.Meanwhile, Brent’s blood-alcohol content was 0.18, which is more than twice the legal limit at the time of the accident. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and freed on $100,000 bond. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office reported in its autopsy Thursday that Brown died of head and neck trauma when their vehicle overturned. He had a dislocated neck and a severely bruised spine. Brent apparently was unharmed and was seen pulling his friend from the wreckage when police arrived.Brent, who has been emotionally distraught since the accident, according to his lawyers, has received support from Brown’s family and even attended a memorial service for the deceased player at the behest of Brown’s mother. The Cowboys have supported Brent and encouraged him to attend a game last month. He was on the sideline for more than half of Dallas’ comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks after the accident. When he learned his presence there caused somewhat of a commotion, Brent left the stadium. Coach Jason Garrett and owner Jerry Jones said they were unaware that Brent would be present at the game.A few days later, the team and league forbade him from attending any more Cowboys games.

We thought it might be interesting to hear more from some of this year’s young graduates.“What are your plans for the future?” we asked. At James Madison High in Clairemont Mesa and at Clairemont High, some students talked about becoming engineers, veterinarians, and teachers. One young man said he would join the military and eventually try to get a job as an EMT-firefighter. Another graduating senior said he was going to join the electricians’ union, in preparation for starting a business as an electrician. One young woman said she hoped to become an environmental lawyer, and then the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. Many students said they would attend a local community college first and later transfer to San Diego State or another four-year university. Many students told us they were aware of the steeply rising costs of a college education. According to a 2014 national study, seven in ten college students had student loan debt, with an average of nearly $29,000 for each student borrower. We also asked the graduates who they credit for their passion and inspiration. Some said their friends and family helped them, while many gave the credit to their coaches and teachers. 6,000 students this week graduated from the 22 public high schools in the San Diego Unified School District. At the two high schools we visited, more than 90 percent said they planned to attend 2 to 4 year universities. To the class of 2018, we wish all of the young graduates throughout San Diego County much happiness and success!
